Wrong-way driver sparks multi-car crash and chaos on A2 motorway
A wrong-way driver caused chaos on the A2 motorway near Neunkirchen on a Saturday evening. The incident led to a major traffic jam and damaged several vehicles, though no serious injuries were reported.
The driver entered the motorway at kilometer 51, between Seebenstein and Wiener Neustadt, from a rest area. Instead of heading in the correct direction, they drove roughly two kilometres against oncoming traffic. Six passenger cars were hit before the driver attempted to turn around.
The vehicle became stuck, bringing traffic toward Vienna to a complete standstill. Nineteen firefighters spent nearly two hours securing the scene and clearing the wreckage. Police have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
No updates on traffic volume in the area have been released since the accident. Authorities continue to examine the circumstances that led to the wrong-way driving. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks posed by such dangerous behaviour on motorways.
