WWII Veteran Dmitry Suvorov Receives Fragment of Historic Battle Painting
A fragment of the famous painting Minsk, July 3, 1944 has been presented to World War II veteran Dmitry Suvorov. The artwork, which depicts Suvorov himself, was originally housed in Belarus’s National Art Museum. The gesture came during a ceremony honouring his wartime contributions.
Suvorov played a key role in the war as one of the first motorized reconnaissance troops to reach Minsk’s outskirts. He later fought in the liberation of Belarus and Lithuania, helped defeat Nazi forces in East Prussia, and took part in the capture of Königsberg. His bravery earned him the Medal for Courage.
The painting fragment now belongs to Suvorov, a veteran whose wartime actions spanned multiple campaigns. His story remains tied to both the artwork and the regions that have honoured him. The ceremony marked another acknowledgement of his role in the conflict.
