Xi and Mishustin Strengthen China-Russia Ties Amidst Global Turmoil
Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin recently met, focusing on strengthening ties and cooperation across various sectors. The meeting comes a day after Mishustin's talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang and follows the declaration of a 'no-limits friendship' between the two nations in February 2022.
Xi emphasized the importance of deepening partnerships in energy, agriculture, connectivity, and aerospace. He also called for close coordination and implementation of agreements reached with Russian President Vladimir Putin to expand the scope of cooperation. Mishustin, in turn, reaffirmed Moscow's commitment to bolstering economic, scientific, and technological cooperation with Beijing.
Xi declared safeguarding, strengthening, and expanding ties with Russia as a 'strategic choice' for both nations. He expressed readiness to align China's 15th Five-Year Plan with Russia's economic and social development strategies to foster higher-quality, higher-level growth. New avenues for cooperation in artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and green development were also discussed.
Despite a turbulent external environment and Western sanctions, the meeting between Xi and Mishustin underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen their strategic partnership. The leaders agreed to advance cooperation in multiple sectors, with a focus on energy, trade, and technology.
