Xi Jinping Unveils Global Governance Initiative to Reshape World Order

China's President Xi Jinping has unveiled the Global Governance Initiative (GGI), a comprehensive plan to reshape the world order, at a high-profile event in Beijing attended by over 25 heads of governments. The proposal, presented on September 30, 2025, seeks to create a 'community with a shared future for humanity' and solidify China's role as a leader of the global south.

The GGI, along with other global initiatives, embodies China's vision for an alternative international system. Xi Jinping's plan emphasizes principles such as sovereign equality, multilateralism, and a people-centered approach. However, his vision of multilateralism diverges from the traditional understanding, favouring bilateral consultations over universally binding rules.

Xi Jinping has previously stated that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin are 'driving these changes together', referring to the shifts in the global order.
