Yakutia Ensures Inmates' Voting Rights in Regional Elections
Inmates in Yakutia's pretrial detention center and those under house arrest exercised their democratic rights recently. Voting was facilitated within the detention center and at detainees' residences, ensuring compliance with electoral laws.
Prison staff guided inmates through the voting process, providing details about candidates. This inclusive approach allowed accused and suspected individuals to cast their ballots in regional and local presidential elections.
Mobile polling teams visited house arrest detainees at their homes, enabling them to participate despite their circumstances. Meanwhile, convicts serving compulsory labor sentences voted at polling stations set up in correctional facilities.
The voting process was overseen by Yakutia’s Human Rights Commissioner Sardana Guryeva and public monitoring commission members. They ensured that electoral laws were followed, making the voting process fair and transparent for all involved in the electoral process.
