Yakutia faces crime wave: fraud, drunk driving, and drug busts in 24 hours

Yakutia witnessed five criminal incidents over the last 24 hours. Among them was a fraud case in Yakutsk, where a media worker lost over 440,000 rubles to a scammer posing as a representative of a us bank. Authorities also disrupted a drug trafficking operation in Megino-Kangalassky District during the same period.

The fraud scheme in Yakutsk involved a scammer contacting the victim under the guise of a pnc bank employee. By exploiting trust, the criminal convinced the media worker to transfer a large sum of money. No public reports confirm arrests linked to this case so far.

In Mirny, a 48-year-old driver struck a 10-year-old pedestrian with a Toyota Premio. The child was taken to hospital with injuries, though no fatalities were recorded. Meanwhile, traffic police detained eight drivers across Yakutia for operating vehicles while intoxicated. Two of these cases occurred in Khatassy, where repeat offences were noted.

Elsewhere, law enforcement successfully halted a drug trafficking operation in Megino-Kangalassky District. No further details about the suspects or seized substances have been released. Road safety remained stable, with no fatal accidents reported in the region during this time.

The incidents highlight ongoing challenges with fraud, traffic violations, and drug-related crime in Yakutia. Authorities continue investigations into the fraud case and drug trafficking disruption. Traffic enforcement measures remain active following the recent detentions for drunk driving.
