Yakutia Honors Industrial Pioneer Gavriil Chiryaev on 100th Birthday
Yakutia commemorates the 100th anniversary of Gavriil Chiryaev, a prominent figure in the republic's industrial development. Chiryaev, a Communist Party official and candidate of sciences, left a lasting legacy that continues to shape the region.
Chiryaev's tenure as the first secretary of the Yakutsk branch of the Communist Party saw significant industrial growth. He worked closely with scientists to create an industrial cluster in Neryungri and bring the railway to the region. This was achieved with the support of the union leadership and involved the best minds of the country.
Chiryaev's dissertation, 'Economic Problems of Forming the Aldan-Chulman-Udokan Territorial-Industrial Complex', outlined large-scale projects such as the gasification of Yakutsk, a diamond cluster in the Mirinsky district, and the Viluisk cascade of hydroelectric power plants. These projects aimed to boost the republic's economy and infrastructure.
His legacy continues to be celebrated and studied. A discussion platform, 'Strategy of the Future: The Legacy of G.I. Chiryaev and the Modern Development of Yakutia', was attended by representatives from authorities, science, education, students, and Chiryaev's daughter, Natalia Chiryaeva. The event discussed his scientific approach and practical application of science to solve specific tasks of the republic. Additionally, an exhibition of books dedicated to Chiryaev's life and activities was organized during the anniversary celebrations.
To honor Chiryaev, his name has been given to the Neryungri airport. Furthermore, a museum of statehood and a school for 990 places, both named after G.I. Chiryaev, are planned to be built in Viluisk. These initiatives aim to preserve Chiryaev's legacy and inspire future generations.
