Yakutia Murder Trial Begins After Dismembered Body Found in Aldan River
A local resident in Khandyga, Yakutia, has been formally charged with murder after a man's body was found dismembered and discarded in the Aldan River. The prosecutor's office in Thompson District approved the charges, citing personal animosity and jealousy as the motive behind the killing.
The incident took place in August 2025, when the accused allegedly stabbed the victim at least once in the right shoulder, causing fatal injuries. After the attack, the suspect dismembered the body and placed the remains in plastic garbage bags. These were then transported to the banks of the Aldan River and thrown into the water.
The case has now been forwarded to court for trial under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code, which covers murder. Authorities have noted that, over the past five years, Yakutia has seen no high-profile cases of this nature, with missing persons investigations in the permafrost region following standard procedures without significant public attention or systemic improvements.
The trial will determine the legal consequences for the accused. If convicted, the suspect could face severe penalties under Russian law. The case remains one of the few documented violent crimes in the region to reach this stage of prosecution.
