Yakutia's 'Bastions of Memory' Honours War Heroes
Yakutia's 'Bastions of Memory' project, launched in February 2025, is inviting residents to participate in preserving the legacy of Yakutian warriors who perished during the Great Patriotic War. The initiative aims to strengthen family historical memory and involves descendants in clarifying and maintaining the lists of the fallen. Memorial obelisks and plaques, bearing the names of Yakutian heroes, are being created across Russia.
The project, funded by public donations from descendants of Red Army soldiers and concerned Yakutians, has already seen memorials opened in Volgograd and the Novgorod region. By the end of this year, new memorials are planned in Smolensk, Kaluga, and Pskov regions, with a total of 2,427 Yakutian names to be inscribed on granite plaques. Interested parties can contribute by donating to the 'Fund of Veterans of the Far North EREL' bank account. The recipients of these donations are the families and descendants of Yakutians who died during the war.
The 'Bastions of Memory' project is a testament to the enduring spirit of remembrance and respect for the sacrifices made by Yakutian warriors. Through the collective effort of the community, the names and stories of these heroes will continue to be honoured and preserved for future generations.
