Yekaterinburg's Deputy Mayor Nozhenko Joins Race for Regional Legislature Seat
Dmitry Nozhenko, deputy mayor of Yekaterinburg and former head of the Leninsky District, has announced his intention to run for the Sverdlovsk Regional Legislature. He plans to contest the seat in the Zheleznodorozhny District, where campaign posters have already appeared in residential buildings.
Nozhenko initially sought financial support from regional authorities but failed to secure it. Governor Denis Pasler was willing to back his candidacy but insisted he fund his own campaign. Despite this, regional officials later gave Nozhenko preliminary approval to stand.
The current district representative, Valentin Lappo, will also seek re-election. Nozhenko reportedly sees Lappo as a less formidable opponent than Viktor Maslakov, the incumbent from the Leninsky District.
Nozhenko currently oversees Yekaterinburg's street trading reform, a project now under review by the Economic Crimes Unit (OBEP). No decision has yet been made on whether this will affect his political future or potential dismissal.
Nozhenko's campaign is now underway, with posters visible across the Zheleznodorozhny District. His bid for the regional legislature remains active, though funding and ongoing investigations may influence the outcome. The election will determine whether he replaces Lappo as the district's representative.
