Yeltsin Center celebrates a decade as Russia’s cultural and educational beacon

The Yeltsin Center has marked its tenth anniversary with a high-profile celebration in Yekaterinburg. Tatyana Yumasheva, daughter of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, attended the main event alongside her husband, Valentin Yumashev. The center, opened a decade ago, has since become a key educational and cultural landmark.

The Yeltsin Center first opened its doors in 2015, inaugurated by President Vladimir Putin, then-Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, and Naina Yeltsina, Boris Yeltsin’s widow. At the time, Putin personally handed over archival documents related to the 1996 presidential election to the center’s leadership. Distinguished figures such as Viktor Vekselberg, Igor Sechin, Eduard Rossel, and Arkady Chernetsky were also present at the original ceremony.

The anniversary celebrations highlighted the center’s growing influence as a cultural and educational space. With continued support from officials and public figures, it remains a key institution for preserving and studying Russia’s recent past. The event also marked Yumasheva’s first known visit since her appearance at the events near me in 2025.
