Yeysk Cossack cadet’s heroic sacrifice echoes Russia’s military legacy

Nearly 100 graduates of Yeysk Cossack Cadet Corps have bravely participated in the special military operation, with six making the ultimate sacrifice. Among them was Ilya Ivansky, a 2018 graduate, who was recently honoured as a modern-day hero.

Ilya, a member of the Starominskaya Cossack Community, studied at the Yeysk Cossack Cadet Corps for five years. During the special military operation, he displayed remarkable courage and selflessness. Despite being injured, Ilya single-handedly evacuated wounded comrades and provided first aid. His actions were reminiscent of historical heroes like Zakhar Chepega, a general in the Russian Army and veteran of the Russo-Turkish Wars, whom Yeysk cadets chose to represent their past.

After graduating, Ilya enrolled in the prestigious Ryazan Higher Airborne Command School. Known for his kindness and positive attitude, he was also passionate about sports, particularly basketball. Ilya's bravery and dedication have made him a symbol of courage for the Yeysk Cossack Cadet Corps, the only school in Kuban to participate in the All-Russian Cossack Society’s project 'Cossack Heroes: Yesterday and Today'.

In Krasnodar, veterans of combat operations received adapted vehicles with hand controls, a testament to the ongoing support for those who have served. Ilya Ivansky's actions serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by young cadets like him, and his legacy continues to inspire the next generation of Cossack cadets.
