Ylfete Fanaj to lead Central Switzerland’s government conference in 2026
Ylfete Fanaj, a Social Democratic councilor from Lucerne, will take over as president of the Central Switzerland Conference of Cantonal Governments (ZRK) in 2026. The decision follows her election by the ZRK plenary assembly on Friday, marking a shift in leadership for the regional body.
Fanaj has held a seat on Lucerne’s cantonal government since 2023. Currently, she oversees the Justice and Security Department, bringing experience in public administration to her new role.
The transition will see Fanaj guide the ZRK through 2026 and 2027. Her background in justice and security may shape discussions on regional governance during her term. The conference continues to unite Central Switzerland’s cantons under rotating leadership.
