Young leaders redefine sustainability at Lake Constance’s landmark congress

A Youth Congress focused on shaping a sustainable future for the Lake Constance region took place in Friedrichshafen. Organised by the International Lake Constance Conference (IBK), the event brought together 110 students and 20 teachers for discussions on environmental and social challenges. Attendees included high-ranking officials eager to hear young voices on key issues.

The congress, themed A Livable Lake Constance Region, served as the closing event for the IBK’s long-running initiative of the same name. Students presented project ideas aimed at improving sustainability around Lake Constance, from climate-friendly transport to protecting local ecosystems. Their proposals were debated directly with policymakers in attendance.

The Friedrichshafen gathering wrapped up the IBK’s initiative while setting the stage for future youth involvement in regional policy. Students left with a clearer understanding of how their ideas could influence real-world decisions. The congress reinforced the importance of collaboration between young people and authorities in shaping a sustainable Lake Constance region.
