Zavolzhye defies decline with steady growth and infrastructure upgrades
Representatives from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) visited Zavolzhye recently to discuss the city's potential. The visit followed a report listing Zavolzhye among settlements with allegedly declining potential, which sparked concern and prompted a closer look.
During the meeting, city officials presented data revealing that Zavolzhye's industry is not in decline but growing steadily. RANEPA specialists assessed the city's foundation and found it solid, providing a strong base for further development. Positive changes in social services and urban infrastructure were also highlighted.
The discussion covered several challenges facing Zavolzhye, including population decline, low birth rates, and aging infrastructure. Both sides agreed that modernizing schools and sports facilities is crucial for the city's success. The study on the development of smaller Russian cities, in which Zavolzhye participated, was conducted last month by the Higher School of Economics. Meanwhile, construction of the A.O. Molev School in Dzerzhinsk has entered its final phase, demonstrating the city's commitment to education and development.
RANEPA's visit to Zavolzhye has provided a more accurate picture of the city's potential. Despite facing challenges, Zavolzhye shows promise with a solid foundation, growing industry, and positive changes in social services and infrastructure. Success in Zavolzhye's development will require collective efforts from all residents, as discussed during the meeting.
