Zohran Mamdani’s all-female transition team signals bold progressive shift for NYC
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has assembled an all-female team of co-chairs for his transition team, led by prominent figures including Lina Khan, former Federal Trade Commission chair. The team also includes Maria Torres-Springer, Grace Bonilla, Melanie Hartzog, and Elana Leopold.
Lina Khan, a fierce antitrust regulator during her tenure at the FTC, is known for her aggressive stance against monopolies. As a prominent ally of Bernie Sanders, her appointment signals Mamdani's intent to continue pushing against what he calls the 'oligarchy' as mayor. Mamdani has not yet been contacted by the White House following his election win.
Mamdani previewed the announcement of other leaders who will help implement his progressive agenda. These include organizers, veterans, policy experts, and working people. He called on supporters to resume donating to his cause to fund the transition team's preparations for January 1.
Mamdani has shown openness to speaking with President Donald Trump about issues that could benefit New Yorkers. Despite not being contacted by the White House yet, he is moving forward with his transition plans, led by a diverse and experienced team.
