Abkhazia closes border with Russia over drone threat at Psou River
Abkhazian authorities have temporarily shut the state border with Russia along the Psou River. The move comes after reports of a drone-related threat in the area. Restrictions on movement are now in place at the checkpoint. The Border Guard Directorate of Abkhazia’s State Security Service announced the closure. Officials cited a potential risk from drones as the reason for the action. Both vehicle and pedestrian crossings have been halted as a result.
News of the new measures first appeared on 8 May. The duration of the security restrictions remains uncertain. Authorities have not provided further details on when normal operations might resume. The border closure affects travel between Abkhazia and Russia at the Psou River crossing. The security steps aim to address the reported drone threat. Officials have not yet confirmed how long the restrictions will last.
