Ahmadi's Bold Revival: Heritage Meets Modern Growth Under New Vision
Sheikh Hamoud emphasized that since assuming office, his priorities have been aligned with the state's broader development strategy, focusing on improving services, addressing daily challenges faced by residents, and strengthening coordination with government entities to ensure efficient project implementation.
He spoke to Al-Rai about the governorate's commitment to transparency and accessibility, noting that its doors remain open to receive suggestions and complaints. "You are in our thoughts and serving you is an honor for us," he said, addressing residents and underscoring the importance of public engagement.
Among the key priorities highlighted are the enhancement of infrastructure, particularly the development of main and internal roads, and the execution of housing projects in South Sabah Al-Ahmad in cooperation with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare.
Joint investment initiatives with the private sector are also underway, alongside the establishment of vital healthcare facilities, including the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Kidney Dialysis Center, he added.
Sheikh Hamoud stressed that project selection is based on population needs and service requirements, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to directly benefit citizens. He added that government agencies are closely monitored to ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
Addressing traffic congestion and aging infrastructure, the governor confirmed ongoing coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and other authorities to implement practical solutions, including road upgrades and maintenance programs. Environmental challenges such as sand encroachment in new residential areas are also being tackled through agricultural and landscaping initiatives.
A major highlight of the governorate's strategy is the launch of a strategic vision for the historic city of Ahmadi under the "Heritage and Identity for Sustainable Development" project. This initiative, in collaboration with the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters and UNESCO, aims to preserve the area's cultural legacy while integrating modern development.
Plans also include the rehabilitation of landmark sites such as the old Ahmadi Cinema and the traditional market, reflecting a broader effort to balance heritage preservation with urban progress.
To strengthen communication with residents, the governorate has introduced multiple channels for public participation, including governorate councils, periodic meetings, and digital platforms such as the "Sahel" application. A dedicated sub-committee has also been established to review and follow up on public proposals.
Common concerns raised by residents include traffic congestion, road conditions, and the distance of some residential areas from Al-Adan Hospital. Sheikh Hamoud assured that all issues are monitored continuously and addressed promptly.
The establishment of the Initiatives Committee marks another step toward community-driven development. The committee evaluates projects proposed by the private sector, focusing on green spaces, parks, and beautification efforts, while ensuring no financial burden on the state.
To date, around 29 initiatives have been implemented, ranging from landscaping to artistic installations and infrastructure maintenance.
Rejecting the need for administrative restructuring despite population growth, Sheikh Hamoud affirmed that the governorate is fully capable of meeting residents' needs through enhanced coordination and expanded powers.
Looking to the future, he reiterated his commitment to sustainable development, improved services, and stronger community ties, calling on residents to continue contributing ideas and feedback.
