Aldi's Fürth Store Opens Parking Lot to Ease City's Shortage Overnights
A new pilot project in Fürth aims to relieve parking shortages in the city's crowded southern district. The Aldi branch at 90 Karolinenstraße will open its car park to residents outside business hours. Drivers can now book spaces overnight or for full weekends at low rates.
The scheme, called after-hours parking, was proposed by the CSU city council faction in April 2025 as part of a broader parking space offensive. It offers 20 additional spaces for public use when the store is closed. Bookings and payments are handled via a smartphone app, with automated licence plate recognition controlling access.
The car park is available from 8 PM to 7 AM on weekdays. On weekends, it remains open continuously from Friday at 8 PM through Monday at 7 AM. Pricing starts at €3 for a single overnight stay, while a full weekend costs €5. A monthly subscription is also offered, capped at €35. Local politicians have welcomed the initiative. The AfD city council group praised the affordability of the monthly fee, calling it an attractive option for residents. So far, no other supermarkets or retailers in Fürth have announced similar projects.
The pilot project provides a short-term solution for drivers struggling with limited parking in the area. With 20 extra spaces and flexible pricing, it may ease some of the daily pressure. The scheme's success could depend on uptake and whether other businesses follow Aldi's lead.
