The image shows a large building with a lot of windows on the side of it, surrounded by vehicles on the road, people walking on the footpath, traffic lights, sign boards, street poles, street lights, electric poles, electric cables, trees and a clear blue sky. The building appears to be undergoing renovation, as evidenced by the scaffolding around it.

Construction Project in Alte Mainzer Straße Faces Delays

According to the city administration, work on the construction project in Alte Mainzer Straße cannot proceed as originally planned for the time being. The announcement comes in response to multiple inquiries from the local SPD faction on the district council.

While the project remains under active pursuit and has already been implemented in certain sections, the administration stated that these areas involved clear legal and practical frameworks. However, unexpected challenges have since arisen in later phases.

Some sections require further clarification, particularly regarding the demarcation and permissible use of spaces. The administration noted that such issues are not uncommon in long-established urban areas. Nevertheless, due to these unresolved matters, the project cannot move forward as intended. Authorities are working to find a viable solution.

One specific question raised by the SPD concerned parking spaces in front of the Nahkauf supermarket in the town center. The city confirmed that the new parking regulations are already in effect. Parking is now only permitted parallel to the direction of traffic, in line with the marked spaces. Compliance will be monitored during routine traffic enforcement.

On-Site Meeting Aims to Clarify Next Steps

In light of the delays and ongoing discussions, the administration has proposed a new approach. Janina Steinkrüger (Green Party), the city's deputy mayor, announced that the situation will be reassessed during an on-site meeting.

The gathering will focus on coordinating further action and determining whether the existing plans need adjustment under current conditions. The district council will receive a separate invitation to this on-site session.
