Anapa's mysterious gas-like smell traced to nearby industrial site

Residents of Anapa have occasionally noticed an unusual smell of gas in the air. Mayor Svetlana Maslova has now addressed the issue, clarifying its source and reassuring the public about safety.

The smell is linked to operations at a facility in Yuzhnaya Ozerovka, near Novorossiysk. It is not gas but a byproduct of industrial activity in that area. When winds blow from the south or southeast, combined with low atmospheric pressure, the odour reaches Anapa.

Air quality in the city is regularly checked by Rospotrebnadzor. The smell fades once wind direction shifts. Authorities confirm there is no danger to residents, but safety protocols will be activated if permissible levels are ever exceeded.

The mayor’s statement aims to ease concerns over the periodic odour. Monitoring continues to ensure air quality remains safe. No further action is required unless exposure limits are breached.
