Austria’s youngest mayors gather in Melk for historic leadership summit

The Young Mayors’ Conference is set to take place in Melk this Thursday and Friday. Federal Minister Claudia Plakolm and Lower Austria’s Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, both from the ÖVP party, have confirmed their attendance.

The conference will bring together young mayors from all over Austria. Burgenland will be represented by 14, Vorarlberg by 12, and Salzburg by 9. Carinthia, on the other hand, will send only 3 young mayors. Lower Austria leads the way with 63 young mayors in their 20s and 30s, followed by Upper Austria with 42. Styria and Tyrol tie for third place with 29 each.

Johannes Gumprecht, a 25-year-old from Lower Austria's Hainburg an der Donau, is the youngest mayor in Austria. The Industrial Quarter is a notable hotspot for young mayors, with Gumprecht and Leonard Brassat from Petronell-Carnuntum being the youngest in the country.

The Young Mayors’ Conference in Melk promises to be an insightful event, with prominent guests and a diverse representation of young mayors from across Austria. The high number of young mayors in Lower Austria and the Industrial Quarter highlights the growing political involvement of younger generations.
