Berlin police foil apartment burglary after resident reports suspicious noises
Case No. 1547
In the early hours of last night, police in Berlin's Marienfelde district arrested three men suspected of attempting to break into an apartment. Just before midnight, a resident on Malteserstraße reported hearing suspicious noises in the hallway of a multi-unit building and alerted authorities. Plainclothes officers responding to the call encountered three masked individuals fleeing through the building's inner corridor and detained two of them. The third suspect initially managed to escape into an elevator, but additional officers were waiting on the ground floor and arrested him as he exited.
At the scene, investigators discovered extensive pry marks on an apartment door, along with abandoned tools nearby. The three detainees—a 26-year-old, a 27-year-old, and a 30-year-old—were taken into police custody for identification processing. After verifying their addresses, all three were released. The case has since been transferred to the burglary unit of Police Directorate 4 (South) for further investigation.
