BJP's West Bengal win celebrated with fish curry and Bengali delicacies
The BJP celebrated its victory in West Bengal with a menu featuring traditional Bengali dishes. After securing a majority in the state, party supporters enjoyed fish curry, rice, and other local specialities. The move came as a direct response to earlier claims made during the election campaign.
During the election, TMC leader Mamata Banerjee had warned voters that a BJP win would ban non-vegetarian food in Bengal. She repeatedly stated that fish and meat would disappear from plates if the party took power.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani dismissed these claims at the time. She assured voters that no such restrictions would happen and even promised to serve Hilsa fish herself. On counting day, Banerjee remained confident of retaining the state. Meanwhile, BJP supporters gathered at party headquarters, where a special menu was prepared. The spread included *Doi Machch* (fish in curd), rice, mixed vegetable curry, and sweets. Outside, celebratory crowds were seen eating *Jhaal Muri* and chicken biriyani.
The BJP’s choice of food for its victory celebration directly addressed earlier political accusations. By serving fish and other Bengali favourites, the party highlighted its stance on local culinary traditions. The meal also marked a symbolic moment in the state’s shifting political landscape.
