BNP Marks 7th Death Anniversary of Tariqul Islam with Special Programs
Today marks the seventh anniversary of the passing of former minister and BNP stalwart, Tariqul Islam. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has planned special programmes in Jashore and across the country to commemorate the occasion. Tariqul Islam, born in Jashore town on November 16, 1946, began his political journey as a student activist of Chhatra Union. He joined the BNP in 1978, following its establishment by late president Ziaur Rahman. Islam rose through the ranks, holding key positions such as vice-chairman and joint secretary general. In 2009, he was appointed to the national standing committee of the BNP. Islam's wife, Nargis Begum, is a former professor at Jashore Government City College and currently serves as a vice-chairman of the BNP. Another prominent figure in the party, Shahida Islam, is the current vice president and also the widow of the late leader. Tariqul Islam passed away in Dhaka on November 4, 2018, and was laid to rest in Karbala Graveyard in Jashore the following day. His contributions to the BNP and Bangladesh politics are remembered and honoured today, with the party observing his seventh death anniversary with elaborate programmes.
