Brandenburg honours 2026 Science Prize winners for groundbreaking research and teaching
Brandenburg’s Science Minister, Manja Schüle, has announced the winners of the 2026 Brandenburg Science Prizes. The awards recognise outstanding research and teaching, with two postdoctoral prizes and four teaching honours presented this year. Each recipient was praised for their innovative contributions to education and scholarship. The postdoctoral awards, each worth €20,000, went to two researchers. Jaya Bharti received the prize for her work on sustainable hydrogen peroxide production methods. Jana Weiß was also honoured for her research into class identity and social divides in literature.
Four teaching awards, each valued at €10,000, were given to educators. Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development secured three of these for its creative teaching approaches in agroforestry and sustainable development education. The University of Potsdam claimed the fourth award for a course analysing economic issues through children’s literature. Schüle described the winners as 'educators who think beyond their own disciplines'. Their work was highlighted for bridging gaps between different fields and fostering new ways of learning.
The awards will provide financial support to the recipients, helping them advance their research and teaching projects. The recognised initiatives cover areas from sustainable chemistry to interdisciplinary education. The prizes also underscore Brandenburg’s commitment to fostering innovation in academia.
