Brandenburg's crime rate falls in 2025—but violent attacks surge
Brandenburg saw a mixed crime trend in 2025, with overall offences dropping but violent incidents rising. Police recorded 166,508 crimes last year, marking a 5.7% decrease from 2024. However, violent crime climbed by 2%, including a sharp increase in knife attacks and homicides. Theft remained the most common offence, accounting for nearly a third of all cases. A total of 50,612 theft-related crimes were reported, slightly lower than previous years. Meanwhile, violent offences reached 5,443, with serious and aggravated assaults rising to 3,923 cases.
Knife attacks surged to 865 incidents, including 25 homicides. This spike contributed to the overall 2% increase in violent crime. Despite these rises, the clearance rate for all crimes stood at 57.7%, meaning more than half of reported cases were resolved. Excluding immigration violations, 151,124 crimes were registered in 2025. This follows a broader downward trend since 2020, when cases fell from 104,000 to 92,000 by 2023. A slight rebound to 95,000 in 2024 was linked to post-pandemic normalisation, but the 2025 figures confirm a continued decline in most non-violent offences.
The 2025 data shows Brandenburg's crime rate falling overall, yet violent incidents—particularly knife-related—are growing. With theft still dominant and more than half of cases solved, authorities face ongoing challenges in addressing both persistent and emerging threats.
