Brave bystander stops knife-wielding robber in Halle-Neustadt attack
A violent attempted robbery took place in Halle-Neustadt on Friday afternoon. A 19-year-old Syrian man allegedly threatened a 44-year-old Ukrainian woman with a knife in her apartment. Police have now launched an investigation into the incident. The attack happened at around 1:55 p.m. in an apartment linked to the city’s red-light district. The suspect reportedly demanded money while holding the knife, which was later seized as evidence.
A 21-year-old man from Halle (Saale) stepped in to help the victim. Alongside another witness, he managed to restrain the suspect until officers arrived. The rescuer suffered minor neck injuries and was treated as an outpatient.
Authorities are still examining the motive behind the attempted robbery. The 19-year-old now faces further legal proceedings. The knife used in the attack has been taken for evidence. The suspect remains under investigation, while the injured bystander has since been discharged. Police continue to gather details about the incident.
