Bremen’s Senate Saves Four Daycare Centers from Imminent Closure
Bremen's Senate has stepped in to prevent the closure of four daycare centers operated by Petri & Eichen, which faced imminent shutdown due to insolvency. The Senate authorized the takeover of these facilities by KiTa Bremen, ensuring continued operation from January 1, 2026.
The centers, located in Vahr, Osterholz-Tenever, and Hemelingen districts, serve around 200 children and employ over 70 staff. The Senate saw no alternative to prevent the closure, which would have left many families without childcare.
Mark Rackles, Senator for Children and Education, played a crucial role in coordinating the takeover. He emphasized that transferring the centers to the municipal provider guarantees all children will keep their childcare spots. The transfer of operations will take effect on January 1, 2026.
The Senate has authorized the managing director of KiTa Bremen to sign the purchase agreement for the four daycare centers. This move ensures the continued operation of these vital facilities, providing relief to families and maintaining essential childcare services in Bremen.
