Bulgarian driver loses car in Bielefeld after ignoring German license rules
Bielefeld (ots) – Traffic Police Seize Car After Driver Vows to Defy Officers
A motorcycle officer from Bielefeld's traffic police unit impounded the car of a 29-year-old local man on Thursday, March 26, 2026, after the driver declared his intention to continue operating the vehicle despite lacking a valid German license—and announced he would ignore any police signals to stop during future trips.
The incident unfolded on Paulusstraße, where the officer noticed a Daewoo Matiz with a faulty brake light and an unbelted driver. The 29-year-old, a Bulgarian national, insisted he was legally permitted to drive with his foreign license, even though he had been living in Germany for years.
During the traffic stop, the man told the officer he could "watch him drive off the next day." To prevent this, the motorcycle officer seized the Daewoo Matiz and had it towed away. Records show the 29-year-old had already been reported three times for driving without a valid license.
