Central German Pension Insurance expands cross-border benefits in 2025

The Central German Pension Insurance remains a key provider of social security services in 2025. Based in Leipzig, it handles pensions, retirement planning, and rehabilitation for workers across Germany and abroad. The organisation also serves as the main contact for Hungarian and Bulgarian citizens with ties to the German pension system. In 2025, the Central German Pension Insurance disbursed 11,812 pensions to recipients within the European Economic Area (EEA). Hungary received the highest number, with 8,497 payments, followed by Bulgaria at 3,293. Beyond Europe, pensions were also sent to countries like the United States, Canada, and Australia.

The institution operates its own rehabilitation clinic in Göhren. As one of the largest social insurance providers in the region, it employs over 3,500 staff and offers more than 100 apprenticeship and study positions annually. Locally, it serves as the primary point of contact for pension and rehabilitation matters in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. For Hungarian and Bulgarian workers—or Germans who have worked in those countries—the Central German Pension Insurance acts as the nationwide liaison office. This ensures smooth coordination of benefits across borders.

The Central German Pension Insurance continues to expand its reach, processing thousands of international pension claims each year. With a strong regional presence and specialised services, it remains a vital link for workers both in Germany and abroad.
