Chelyabinsk cancels Immortal Regiment march over security threats
Chelyabinsk has cancelled its annual in-person Immortal Regiment march on May 9. Governor Alexei Teksler confirmed the decision after a regional security meeting.
The event will now take place online instead. The cancellation follows a series of no-drone safety alerts across Chelyabinsk Oblast. Authorities recorded multiple incidents over the past week, raising concerns about public gatherings.
Governor Teksler announced the change after consulting with the regional anti-terrorism commission. While the traditional march will not go ahead, organisers have prepared an online alternative for participants. Residents will now join the commemoration through digital platforms. The move aims to ensure public safety amid ongoing security alerts. Officials have not yet confirmed whether future in-person events will be affected.
