Cottbus man arrested for arson and Nazi memorabilia possession after bar fire
A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Cottbus on suspicion of arson and insurance fraud. The incident follows a fire at a bar in Burg, located in the Spreewald region. Authorities have launched an ongoing investigation into the case. The suspect was taken into custody on Monday after police linked him to the bar fire. A judge later approved a warrant for his detention. Officers then searched his home and business premises, uncovering disturbing items.
During the searches, police discovered Nazi memorabilia, including images and busts of Adolf Hitler, as well as a uniform from the Nazi era. They also confiscated documents, computer equipment, and fire-damaged objects. Additionally, drugs and a stolen motorcycle were seized from the property.
The Cottbus Public Prosecutor’s Office and the South Brandenburg Police Directorate are leading the inquiry. Early findings indicate the fire may have been set intentionally, with insurance fraud as a possible motive. The arrested man remains in custody while investigations continue. Authorities are examining the seized evidence to determine the full extent of his involvement. The case remains under active review by prosecutors and police.
