Cyprus Hosts Landmark EU Disability Conference in Limassol
The Cyprus Presidency is hosting a High-Level Conference on Disability in Limassol. The event brings together senior officials, ministers, and disability organisations to address key issues. Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Clea Papaellina will open the proceedings. The conference focuses on supporting decision-making for persons with disabilities and strengthening community-level services. European Commissioner for Equality Hadja Lahbib will outline the EU’s 2030 Disability Strategy during the summit.
Ministers from Ireland and Spain will join representatives from Malta to share best practices in supported decision-making. Disability organisations and individuals with lived experience are also taking part in discussions. The event marks the first time the European Disability Platform is meeting outside Brussels.
Senior officials from Cyprus and Europe, along with NGO representatives, are attending the two-day event. The organisers aim to build a unified framework for dialogue across political, technical, and social levels. The conference seeks to promote a barrier-free society and advance the 2030 Disability Strategy. It provides a platform for collaboration between policymakers, experts, and those directly affected by disability. The outcomes are expected to shape future support systems across Europe.
