Cyprus leads EU with lowest child poverty and social exclusion rates in 2025
Cyprus stands out in the EU for its low rate of poverty or social exclusion among families with children. The country recorded one of the lowest AROPE rates for such households in 2025. This places it among the top performers in the region. In 2025, the EU’s average AROPE rate for households with dependent children was 22.1%. For households without children, the rate was slightly lower at 19.8%. Cyprus reported a rate of 12.2% for families with children, well below the EU average.
Other countries with similarly low rates included Slovenia at 10.4% and the Netherlands at 11.7%. At the opposite end, Spain had the highest rate at 29.9%, followed by Romania at 29.4% and Bulgaria at 29.1%. Cyprus’s rate of 12.2% confirms its position as one of the EU’s best performers in reducing poverty and social exclusion for families with children. The data highlights significant differences across member states, with some nations facing much higher risks.
