Dortmund crash leaves van wrecked after BMW driver flees scene
A 26-year-old man from Dortmund crashed his Ford Transit into a tree after swerving to avoid a collision with a white BMW. The incident happened early on Schneiderstraße, near house number 51, where the road narrows. Police are now searching for the BMW driver, who fled the scene after the crash.
At around 8:05 a.m., the man was driving his Ford Transit west along Schneiderstraße. As he approached the narrow section near house number 51, a white BMW 1 Series came from the opposite direction. The BMW driver, described as a blonde woman in dark clothing, signalled for him to pass first.
Both drivers then attempted to move through the tight space at the same time. To avoid a direct collision, the man steered sharply, causing his van to crash head-on into a tree. The BMW, an older model with a Dortmund licence plate containing the letter H, continued driving without stopping. The 26-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Authorities have since launched a criminal investigation into the incident, focusing on charges of leaving the scene and negligent bodily harm.
The BMW driver remains unidentified, and police are urging witnesses to come forward. The crash left the Ford Transit severely damaged, while the injured man received medical treatment. Investigators are reviewing evidence to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the collision.
