Dutch driver arrested in Duisburg after police find drugs during erratic stop
Officers observed a car with three occupants making erratic lane changes.
When patrol units identified themselves as police and pulled over the Volkswagen near a gas station on Wanheimer Straße, they discovered two additional passengers inside (aged 24 and 38).
After explaining the reason for the stop and addressing the driver's behavior, the 50-year-old Dutch national appeared visibly nervous. When officers asked him to present his driver's license and ID, he stepped out of the vehicle. Under the pretense of searching for his documents, he opened the rear side door. Police noticed him attempting to hide an object inside the car—something he had previously held in his pocket.
Suspecting the item was a substantial quantity of narcotics, and given that his identity could not be definitively confirmed and he lacked a fixed address, officers took him into provisional custody and brought him to the station. Since he also appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol, the Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office ordered a blood sample to be taken.
Police seized his mobile phone along with the discovered narcotics.
On April 16, at the request of the Duisburg Public Prosecutor's Office, the 50-year-old was brought before a magistrate at Duisburg District Court. An arrest warrant was issued and executed as requested.
The suspect now faces charges of violating narcotics laws and driving under the influence.
