Essen’s WEBER1 project to reshape the northern city center by 2027
Essen's northern city center is set for a significant transformation with the upcoming completion of the WEBER1 project and the new central library at Marktkirche. The WEBER1 complex, due to open in the first quarter of 2027, will house a mix of facilities. Around 50 publicly subsidized apartments will provide affordable housing, while office spaces, commercial areas, and dining options will boost the local economy. The project, led by the construction company Allbau GmbH, reached a significant milestone on November 3, 2025, with a topping-out ceremony. The building will also host the city's civil registry office, further integrating it into the community. The WEBER1 project, along with the new central library, is poised to revitalize Essen's northern city center. Upon its opening in early 2027, it will offer a blend of residential, commercial, and public services, contributing to the city's growth and development.
