Estonia Opens Five New Embassies in 2026 to Strengthen Global Ties

Estonia is expanding its global diplomatic presence with five new embassies in 2026. The latest opening took place in Brazil’s capital, Brasília, on Saturday, May 16. This follows the inauguration of an embassy in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, last month. The first of the new embassies launched in Yerevan on April 9. Since then, preparations have moved forward in other locations. A building for the Brasília embassy has already been secured in the Lago Sul area, with an official opening planned for later this year.

In Azerbaijan, Estonia’s embassy now operates from an office building shared with the Swedish and Latvian missions. Meanwhile, negotiations for the Kenyan embassy are ongoing, with potential sites in central Nairobi under review.

For Moldova, lease discussions continue as officials assess several rental options in central Chișinău. So far, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed premises for three of the five planned embassies. The expansion will bring Estonia’s diplomatic network to new regions, including Latin America, the South Caucasus, and East Africa. The second half of 2026 will see the Brasília embassy formally begin operations, marking another step in the country’s growing international engagement.
