The European Union has held its first summit with Armenia in Yerevan. The meeting produced a joint declaration and a new Connectivity Partnership. Brussels is now deepening ties with Armenia while maintaining its relationship with Azerbaijan. The summit marked a significant step in EU-Armenia relations. Leaders agreed to boost cooperation in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure under the new Connectivity Partnership. Brussels also reaffirmed its support for Armenia’s reform agenda and infrastructure development.

France played a key role in shaping Europe’s engagement with Armenia. However, the EU continues to recognise Azerbaijan’s strategic importance. The country remains vital for Europe’s energy and transport interests in the South Caucasus.

The new partnership reflects Europe’s growing political investment in Armenia. Yet, the EU cannot overlook Azerbaijan’s role in regional connectivity. Both countries hold distinct but essential positions in Europe’s wider strategy for the South Caucasus. The summit strengthened ties between Brussels and Yerevan through concrete agreements.
