Ex-Trinamool minister Sujit Bose arrested over recruitment scam allegations
Sujit Bose, a former Trinamool Congress MLA and minister, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. The arrest follows a lengthy questioning session over alleged recruitment irregularities in the south Dum Dum municipality. Bose had arrived at the ED’s Salt Lake office earlier that morning with his son and lawyer.
The case has seen repeated scrutiny from the ED. Earlier, the agency conducted searches at multiple locations linked to Bose and his son. Another TMC MLA, Rathin Ghosh, was also summoned in connection with the same scam but did not appear before investigators.
Bose had previously sought legal relief to avoid questioning, citing election campaign commitments. He approached the Calcutta High Court for an exemption but was required to appear after the second phase of voting. On May 1, he finally visited the ED office, where officials questioned him for around 10 hours. The arrest came after investigators concluded that Bose had not cooperated fully and had provided misleading information. Following the detention, he will undergo a mandatory medical examination before being presented in court on May 12.
This marks another development in the ongoing probe into recruitment irregularities. Bose’s arrest follows multiple summons and searches tied to the case. The next court hearing is scheduled for May 12, where further details may emerge.
