Solingen – Drivers Face Traffic Changes Near Gasstraße from Late April

Motorists should prepare for adjustments to traffic around Gasstraße starting in late April, as municipal utility company Technische Betriebe Solingen announces the next phase of construction to relocate a water main.

One-Way Street Between Numbers 1 and 29

From Monday, April 27 (provisional date), work will begin on the section between Lüneschloßstraße and Grünewalder Straße. As part of this phase, Gasstraße between house numbers 1 and 29 will become a one-way street, with traffic flowing from Grünewalder Straße toward Brüler Straße.

Detour via Multiple Roads

A signed detour will be set up for through traffic, routing drivers via Brüler Straße, Am Südpark, Birkenweiher, and Kölner Straße before returning to Grünewalder Straße. Commuters should expect longer travel times.

Civic Facilities Remain Accessible

Despite the restrictions, all buildings and municipal facilities along the route—including the vehicle registration office (Kfz-Zulassungsstelle)—will remain fully accessible.

Construction Scheduled Through Late November

Current plans call for work to continue until the end of November.

No Restrictions for Pedestrians – Rules for Cyclists

Pedestrians will face no limitations. However, cyclists are prohibited from riding against the direction of one-way traffic. The city cites safety concerns, noting that uneven surfaces in the construction zone and reduced visibility at intersections pose heightened risks.

Authorities ask all road users for their understanding and recommend avoiding the area where possible.
