Georgia’s PM slams EU enlargement report as flawed and politically biased

Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has slammed the European Commission's 2025 Enlargement Report, describing it as a reflection of the EU's internal struggles.

Kobakhidze began by criticizing the report's assessment of the EU's own situation. He lamented a 'tragic situation' within the bloc, linking it to a regression in democracy and human rights. The Prime Minister also highlighted the EU's economic decline, noting its global economic share has plummeted from 30% to 17.5%.

Turning to the report's content, Kobakhidze accused it of containing 'many distorted facts'. He suggested these inaccuracies were symptomatic of larger issues within the European bureaucracy.

In the same report, the European Commission criticized Turkey's progress as an EU candidate country. It noted ongoing issues with fundamental rights, rule of law, repression of opposition, and setbacks in democratic standards. The Commission, led by President Ursula von der Leyen and Commissioner Marta Kos, released these findings as part of their broader 2025 enlargement package.
