German man faces trial for 'stealthing' and assaulting unconscious victim
A 35-year-old man is standing trial at Halle Regional Court on three counts of rape. The charges involve allegations of 'stealthing'—the covert removal of a condom during sex—and assaulting a woman while she was asleep. Proceedings began after the case was moved from a district court due to the severity of the potential sentence. The alleged offences took place between April and December 2022. Prosecutors claim the man removed a condom without consent during intercourse with two women. He is also accused of having sex with a third woman while she was asleep.
The trial is being held before the 1st Grand Criminal Chamber of Halle Regional Court. Multiple hearing days have been scheduled to review evidence and hear testimony from the alleged victims. The case was transferred to the regional level because the possible sentence exceeds the four-year maximum a district court can impose. A conviction for rape carries a minimum two-year prison term. Given the cumulative nature of the charges, the final sentence could be significantly longer.
The court will continue examining the evidence over several sessions. If found guilty, the defendant faces a prison term of at least two years, with the possibility of an extended sentence. The outcome will depend on the testimony and legal arguments presented during the trial.
