German parliament erupts in row over AfD's alleged nepotism and hiring abuses

Bilger launched a scathing attack on the AfD, declaring, "The AfD nepotism scandal reveals a level of shamelessness in handling lawmakers' employment arrangements that was previously thought impossible in parliament." The CDU politician's remarks came as a Union faction spokesperson confirmed that, based on current knowledge, there were "no past cases or incidents from the 21st legislative term" within the CDU/CSU parliamentary group suggesting cross-party employment schemes.

The Greens struck a similar tone. "We have no evidence that any members of our faction have violated the existing rules," Irene Mihalic, the parliamentary group's managing director, told the newspaper. Addressing potential legislative reforms, she noted that while current regulations were already strict, the party would "eagerly await the specific proposals for change" and "naturally examine them with an open mind."
