Germany's gas supply remains secure despite global tensions

Germany's Economy Ministry has reiterated that the country's gas supply remains secure despite escalating tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

When asked how a potential Iranian blockade of the Strait of Hormuz might affect liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments and overall supply security, a ministry spokesperson told the dts news agency that Germany had "many other options beyond just LNG deliveries"—such as gas imports via the Norwegian pipeline. "Supply is definitely secure," the spokesperson emphasized.

The ministry also noted that it could not specify how much LNG actually transits through the Strait of Hormuz. "In the past, this hasn't necessarily been a major route," the spokesperson said, adding that ultimate responsibility for supply logistics lies with individual traders.
