Gertrud-Brandt-Haus unveils plaque honoring women's post-war housing legacy in Ulm

A commemorative plaque has been unveiled at the Gertrud-Brandt-Haus on Beyerstraße 14. The ceremony was attended by Lord Mayor Martin Ansbacher, Dr. Frank Pinsler, and other representatives. The plaque pays tribute to Gertrud Brandt and the Women’s Working Group for their post-war housing efforts in Ulm. The Gertrud-Brandt-Haus stands on the site of the original post-war building created by the Women’s Working Group. The new structure blends modern architecture with a strong social purpose, offering 27 apartments. Of these, 40% are subsidised to support those in need.

Two cluster apartments within the building will specifically house young single mothers, in partnership with the Oberlinhaus. UWS is investing €12.9 million in the project to ensure its long-term success.

During the unveiling, Lord Mayor Martin Ansbacher highlighted the enduring importance of the Women’s Working Group’s civic engagement. City Councilor Sigrid Räkel-Rehner also acknowledged the women’s historical contributions and UWS for continuing their legacy. Dr. Frank Pinsler thanked the working group for their dedication to realising the plaque. The Gertrud-Brandt-Haus aims to serve as a permanent place of remembrance and support for people facing difficult life circumstances. Its completion marks a significant step in honouring past efforts while addressing present-day housing needs. The project reflects a commitment to social responsibility and community welfare.
