Ghana’s ex-intel chief accused of diverting $7M to personal Microsoft accounts
Former National Signals Bureau Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, is facing trial for allegedly misappropriating funds. He stands accused of transferring GH¢49 million (approximately $7 million) from the bureau's account to his personal Microsoft accounts and those belonging to his wife, rather than using them for the intended purpose of purchasing a cyber defence system software from Elbit Systems, an Israeli company. Edith Ruby Opokua Adumuah, the Director of Finance at the National Signals Bureau, testified that the payment invoice for the Cyber Defence System was not found in the bureau's records, raising questions about the whereabouts of the funds and the authenticity of the transaction. Adu-Boahene is currently on trial for his alleged role in the misappropriation of funds, with the court set to determine the outcome of the case, which has significant implications for the integrity of public financial management in Ghana.
