Gifhorn District Expands Learning Beyond Classrooms with New Initiative

The Gifhorn District Education Office is launching a new initiative to expand learning opportunities beyond the classroom. Schools, businesses, and local organisations are now being invited to register as official learning and experience destinations. These venues will form part of an online directory designed to support teachers and daycare providers in planning educational visits. To qualify, venues must meet specific criteria. They should offer structured learning experiences with clear educational content tailored to certain age groups. Organisational details, such as opening hours and contact information, must also be provided. Examples include guided tours, workshops, or interactive activities that go beyond traditional classroom teaching.

Registration is straightforward—interested parties can complete a form on the Education Office’s website at *bildung.landkreis-gifhorn.de*. Stephanie Jankowski, head of the office, has also encouraged the public to suggest additional locations. The team will then seek permission from those venues before listing them. District Administrator Philipp Raulfs highlighted the value of extracurricular learning in modern education. He urged all relevant institutions to take part, ensuring these opportunities become more visible and accessible to schools and daycare centres. The collected venues will be added to the *Education Navigator*, an online tool hosted on the Education Office’s website.

The initiative aims to create a centralised overview of suitable learning destinations for educational institutions. Once registered, venues will appear in the Education Navigator, making it easier for teachers and carers to find and book visits. The project reflects a growing emphasis on hands-on, real-world learning experiences for students across the district.
