Gleb Nikitin unanimously elected to lead Nizhny Novgorod's Historical Society
Gleb Nikitin has been elected as the new head of the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Branch of the Russian Historical Society. The governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast received full support from the branch’s governing council during a recent expanded meeting. His appointment follows a unanimous vote in favour of his candidacy. The decision came after members of the governing council gathered for a special session. All attendees backed Nikitin’s nomination without opposition. His election marks a new chapter for the regional branch of the historical society.
During the meeting, Nikitin highlighted a key priority for his leadership. He stressed the importance of recognising and promoting the role of Nizhny Novgorod residents in the victory of the Great Patriotic War. The governor called for stronger efforts to preserve and share this part of regional history.
With his new position, Nikitin will now oversee the branch’s activities and initiatives. The focus on historical preservation, particularly regarding the Great Patriotic War, is set to shape future projects. His leadership begins immediately following the council’s approval.
